This a time capsule from the '80 when hair rock ruled and the guitar belonged to Jeff Kollman when he was with his band Edwin Dare. In 1986, Kollman formed the metal band VXN with his brother and drummer Tommy Kollman, vocalist Bryce Barnes and bassist Nep Sindel, and self-released a 6-song mini-LP in 1987, followed by the cassette-only full-length album, The Question, in 1988. The band would morph into Edwin Dare with the addition of bassist Kevin Chown and release three albums between 1992 and 1998 and build a strong fan base around parts of the Midwest through extensive touring.
This V was originally a Gibson Les Paul Special from 1960 and Jeff Kollman and Toni Ramirez turned it into a V in the early 90's after Jeff's love for Randy Rhoads. They added to the body to get the V shape and changed the headstock - more Jackson-esque. It’s certainly one of a kind. That guitar and Jeff's Rico were the two main guitars used live and in the studio with Edwin Dare along with a Mockingbird that got stolen years ago. The V had the headstock repaired in 2006. Eric Chaz from Eric's Guitar Repair did the fix and it’s holding strong.
Here is the guitar in action with Edwin Dare:
